A great source for research collection freaks

The Royal Academy of Arts in London has, of course, a website with plenty of information and its collection online fully searchable. But even more important is the ongoing project of digitising the
Exhibition catalogues
held every year without interruption since 1769 (the Academy was founded in 1768). It is said that more than 10,000 works were exhibited.
Presently are available the Winter Exhibition catalogues from their inception in 1870 through to 1913.
(now extended till 1939, see below
 Comment of February 11, 2013)

You can browse through each catalogue. You can also enter search terms in the Search within the catalogue box to search for artists, titles and lenders within the catalogue. The list of catalogues also contains a 'General Index' per decade.

A great source for research collection freaks. Let's hope the Summer Exhibition catalogues will be soon included as well as all catalogues before 1870 and after 1913.
